DE-CIX Expands Interconnection Footprint In Southeast Asia Through Joint Venture With Thailand’s International Gateway Co.

New Internet Exchange (IX) in Bangkok will integrate Thailand into DE-CIX’s well established Southeast Asian interconnection platform, strengthening regional digital connectivity

Frankfurt (Germany)/Bangkok (Thailand), 28 October 2026. DE-CIX, the world’s leading Internet Exchange (IX) operator, and International Gateway Co. Ltd. (IGC), a leading domestic and international telecom service provider in Thailand, today announce the establishment of DE-CIX Thailand, a joint venture company headquartered in Bangkok. DE-CIX Thailand will build and operate the regional Internet Exchange DE-CIX Bangkok, extending DE-CIX’s distributed ASEAN interconnection platform and becoming the gateway to Mainland Southeast Asia. This move represents the next chapter of DE-CIX’s Southeast Asian expansion. DE-CIX Bangkok is planned to be ready for service in mid 2027.

Through the partnership, DE-CIX will bring its regional interconnection ecosystem to Bangkok, one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing digital infrastructure markets, while IGC will leverage its extensive domestic and cross-border terrestrial network to connect operators from Thailand and neighboring countries to the new IX. The countries that make up Mainland Southeast Asia – Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand – represent approximately 50% of the end users in the entire ASEAN region. The establishment will expand DE-CIX’s Southeast Asian platform to its seventh metropolitan market, providing networks in Thailand with seamless access to one of the region’s largest interconnected digital ecosystems.

DE-CIX Bangkok will be available in well-known data centers across the metropolitan market. In a first for Thailand’s interconnection ecosystem, DE-CIX Bangkok will be directly interconnected with DE-CIX’s other IXs in ASEAN, enabling networks connected in Bangkok to peer directly with networks in Singapore, Johor Bahru, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Jakarta over one integrated regional platform. IGC will provide connectivity to DE-CIX Bangkok and act as a reseller for customers from across Mainland Southeast Asia. In addition, DE-CIX Bangkok will be incorporated into DE-CIX’s global backbone, giving connected networks access to the entire DE-CIX ecosystem.

“Thailand is the next logical step in our Southeast Asian growth strategy,” said Ivo Ivanov, CEO of DE-CIX. “The country has all the ingredients to become the gateway to Mainland Southeast Asia and one of the region’s leading digital connectivity hubs, serving millions of people. Together with IGC, we are creating an environment where networks in Thailand can interconnect locally while gaining seamless access to one of Southeast Asia’s richest digital ecosystems. Customers will benefit from lower latency, greater resilience, and direct access to cloud, AI, content, and network providers across the DE-CIX platform.”

“The establishment of DE-CIX Bangkok will create new opportunities for customers to exchange traffic not only locally but regionally, while reducing latency, improving network performance, and providing access to one of the most interconnected ecosystems in Southeast Asia,” said Supat Eamwiwat, CEO of IGC. We are excited to partner with DE-CIX to support the next phase of Thailand’s digital growth.”

Thailand is rapidly emerging as one of Southeast Asia’s most important digital infrastructure markets. With submarine connectivity into both the Pacific and Indian Oceans, a fast-growing data center market, and its strategic location as the gateway to Mainland Southeast Asia, the country provides an ideal foundation for regional digital infrastructure. The distributed DE-CIX ASEAN platform interconnects networks across Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, and now Thailand. With close to 150 networks connected and connecting, the regional interconnection fabric enables participants at one Internet Exchange to interconnect directly with networks at other DE-CIX Internet Exchanges in the region. The Southeast Asian ecosystem is also directly connected to DE-CIX’s global ecosystem, comprising more than 4,600 networks spanning North and South America, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
