JBIX is peering with global social media giants
KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 (Bernama) — The Johor Bahru Internet Exchange (JBIX), the country’s second Internet Exchange, said it has peered with global social media giants, namely Facebook, Google, Amazon, Yahoo, Akamai, Cloudflare, and Valve Software.
JBIX, in a statement today, said as at 2018, there were 22.4 million Malaysian users on Facebook while Google was used by 98 per cent of Malaysians as their preferred choice of search engine.
“Having both these top consumer favourites on board, JBIX will attract regional Internet service provider (ISP) to join JBIX, hence, creating a connectivity ecosystem and enhancing the Internet experience for the regional audiences,” JBIX extreme broadband managing director and chief peering officer Weng Yew said.
He said the key services that are attracting global and regional players to peer with JBIX was their causeway connect managed dark fibre offerings connecting Malaysia to Singapore.
“Unlike traditional bandwidth providers, who charge by bandwidth usage, JBIX participants can opt for the dark fibre service which allows unlimited capacity over a pair of fibre.
“This is especially essential for content providers who need to build a cost effective, scalable point of presence node in Malaysia.
Weng said users could use the dark fibre service to push unlimited stream of content to users in Malaysia.
“With 5G in its testing period across the region, content players can start planning ahead to the expected increase in demand for more content,” he added.
